It is estimated that about 8,000 migrants are currently in the country and more are expected to arrive. Among them are families with children and unaccompanied and separated children who are far from home. Their health has been deteriorating, they are exhausted, have injuries or have developed diseases. Thousands of migrants are residing outdoors in precarious conditions and are exposed to multiple social and protection risks. They struggle with access to clean water, food and basic healthcare.
The Swiss Government supports several humanitarian projects targeting the stranded migrants as well as the local population.
